Sometimes on long treks, I feel like a sure-footed mountain goat, carving out a path that no one else can see. Sometimes, the days grow long, my pack grows heavy, and I feel like the preserving tortoise, slowly but steadily putting one foot in front of the other, and by sheer will to not give up, I make it to the day's destination.
I have found that pilgrimage has provided me opportunities for self-discovery. By quite literally taking the path less traveled I have found a path to my innermost and truest self. Through walking longer distances and pilgrimage to holy sites, I learned to take the time to hear myself and find what fulfills me in this life.
